  • Age Groups

    7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16    Age groups based on age as of July 17 2009 (first day of meet)
    Younger age groups:  There will be non-competitive events for age 0-2, 3-4 and 5-6.  If a parent wants their age 5-6 child to compete competitively, they must register them as age 7-8 for all events.

    Directions

    Directions to NEW DeFasio Field Track

    (From West) Take Route 135E, thur Wellesley; turn right at 3rd traffic light in Needham (Dedham Ave); DeFasio field is 0.9 miles on left

    (From East) Take Route 9W to Toute 95S and follow 'From North' directions OR Route 1S to Route 95N and follow "From South" directions.

    (From North) Take Route 95S, exit on Dedham Ave, turn left at end of exit ramp toward Needham. DeFasio field is 0.9 miles on right.

    (From South) Take Route 95N, exit on Dedham Ave, turn right at end of exit ramp toward Needahm. DeFasio is 1.2 miles on right.

    1st Place – Trophies for all events, 2nd – 8th Place – Medals
    Ribbons for all heat and field event competitors.  Ribbons for all places for age 0-6
    Athlete of Meet trophies for each age group (age 7-8 – 15-16) and overall

    Team Scoring

    Trophies awarded to top 10 finishing teams.  No scoring for relays or age 5-6 events.
    Scoring: 1st – 10,   2nd – 8,   3rd – 6,   4th – 5,   5th – 4,   6th – 3,   7th – 2,   8th – 1

    Affiliation

    An athlete who enters with a club affiliation may not change to another club during the meet.

    Registration
    Fee

    $18 per individual entry (includes 2 individual running events per day and unlimited field events) if paid entry is received by July 9

    $22 per individual entry (received by 7/16)
    $26 per individual entry (received race day) 
    $10 for all age 0-6  individual entries
    $12 per relay team (relay not included in event limits).
    $7 for extra running events (up to 2 extra running events per day)

    Facilities

    400 meter track.  Portable bathrooms available.  No changing facilities. Food available from nearby grocery store. Athletes are encouraged to bring water bottles.

    Showing up for Events

    You must arrive 30 minutes before the start of your running or field event to ensure participation. Late arrivals may not be permitted to compete.

    Equipment

    Runners must use batons and shot puts provided by the meet.  ¼ inch pyramid or Christmas tree spikes are permitted  No starting blocks.

    Field
    Events

    Children may compete in the Standing Long Jump, Softball Throw, and/or Jump for Height at any time these events are open.  For other all other field events, there are specific times for each age group.

    Event
    Conflicts

    Athletes at field events should notify the field event official if they have to leave to check in and/or compete at a running event.  If an athlete misses an attempt at a field event, accommodation can be provided, at the discretion of the field event official, if it does not disrupt the running and time schedule of the event.  The high jump bar is not lowered if an athlete misses a height.

    Numbers

    Runner numbers should be placed on the front of the jersey.

    Relays

    All runners on a relay team must be the same sex.  Each athlete  must not exceed the age requirement for the age group of the relay they are competing in.  However, younger age athletes may compete on relays for older age groups.  Relay teams may mix runners from different teams and unattached.

    Age 5-6
    Events

    All age 5-6 events will be non-competitive.  Ribbons (but no trophies) will be awarded.
    No times or places will be recorded. 

    50 Meter and Hurdles for Age 7-8

    Children age 7-8 can compete in hurdle and/or 50 meter dash on Friday or Saturday, but not both times. Final meet standings will be based on merging the results from the two days.  Separate awards will be made each day.

    Sportsmanship

    Athletes and/or Teams may be ejected from the meet for unsportsmanlike conduct by coaches,athletes, parents, family, or friends. Parents and coaches are responsible for their athletes’ conduct.

ATHLETE OF THE MEET

ATHLETE OF THE MEET


Eligibility

Any athlete aged 7-16.  There will be 10 trophies.  One for the top boy and girl in ages 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-16 and overall Athlete of the Meet.

Nomination

Coaches or parents can make nominations by filling out a written form available at the scoring table - only one nomination per child, please.  Nominator is responsible for

  • Recording top 1-5 events on nomination form.  Results from no more than 5 events will be considered in the judging.
  • Recording the times and marks from these events (from posted results) on form

Criteria

This award is always subjective, but the criteria include:

  • Strength of marks
  • Only the best 1-5 events count
  • Timeliness of getting information into scoring table
  • Sportsmanship of athlete, parents, coaches, and team

Logistics

Filled out sheet must be returned to the Scoring table prior to the start of the team relay.  Meet officials will make any late adjustments.

Winning

You must be present at the end of the meet to win Athlete of the Meet - no trophies are  mailed.  Decisions of meet director and meet officials are final.

FAQs

Do I have to compete in five events to win AOM?
 
No - quality of mark is of key importance.  You can compete in just one event and have such a fantastic mark that you become an AOM.
Do I have to win each event I compete in?
No, but it certainly helps to win as many events as you can.

What if results haven’t been posted for some events by the start of the relay?
 Be sure to turn in your AOM form before the start of the relay – even if incomplete. Wait for  the results, then go to the Results table and ask that your AOM form be updated.  All updates must be completed by the end of the relays.

                        

 

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What if there is a time conflict between one of my field events and a running event?
Field event officials have the discretion to make accommodations where possible.  However, there may be conflicts which may make it difficult to compete in two events being held at the same time. For all field events except the high jump, you may complete your event at an earlier time period than your age group is scheduled if there is capacity at an earlier time.

Any restrictions on relay teams?
All members on a team must be of the same sex.  Team members may be mixed by club affiliation. Children may move up age groups, but may participate in only one relay race.  Advance registration is recommended, but teams can form and register on race day up to one hour before the race.
Who is eligible to compete?
Any athlete who is born after July 17, 1992
What are the age groups?
2-year age groups (age 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-16).  Age as of July 17, 2009.

Can I compete in a different age group from my true age?
In relays, children may run in a relay for an age group older than their natural age group..
Can 5-6 year olds compete in competitive races and field events?
Only if they register as a 7-8 year old for all their events.
Can I use my own shot put, baton, or starting blocks?
No, all of these will be supplied..
Can I use spikes and starting blocks?
You can use ¼”  pyramid or Christmas tree spikes, but only in the track area. Pin spikes are not permitted. Starting blocks are not permitted..
Will the meet be held if there is inclement weather?
The meet has never been cancelled in 19 years because of weather. If weather conditions dictate, we will temporarily suspend the meet, ask athletes and spectators to return to their cars, and resume the meet as soon as possible.
