The Needham Youth Classic had its starts in 1989 at Memorial Field in Needham and has become the largest open youth track meet in the Northeastern US. The meet provides an opportunity for children to compete against the best in running and field events. The two-day meet comprises over 20 events for age 2-16. Trophies are awarded to all winners, high finishing teams, and athletes of the meet. Medals or ribbons are awarded to all particpants.
- Ages: Open to children 0-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 (age on 1st day of meet - July 12)
- Running events: 50M, 100M, 200M, 300M, 400M, 800M, 1500M, 3000M, 50 Hurdles (age 5-8), 80 Hurdles (age 9-12), 100 Hurdles (age 13-16), 4x100 Relay, 800M Race Walk
- Field events: Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Triple Jump, Turbo Jav, Standing Long Jump, Standing Triple Jump, Softball Throw
- Fees: $18-$26 (age 5-16 - competitive), $10 (age 1-4+ non-competitive) Unlimited field events, up to 2 running events per day, $8 extra running event, $14 per relay team

South Shore Fireboltz Win 2012 Youth Classic
Nearly 500 came to compete in the 23rd Needham Youth Classic. Competition included 12 running events (from 50 to 3000 meters) and 8 field events. 27 meet records fell in the almost perfect weather. South Shore Fireboltz won their 1st team championship. Overall athletes of the meet included 16-year-old Amanda Pasko of Wellesley captured 6 events and set 4 records and 16-year-old Jordan Samuels of the Cambridge Jets won 4 events setting 2 meet records and missed winning two more events by small margins. Saugus Sachems Win 2011 Youth Classic
Children from all around the Northeast and as far away as Illinois came together to compete in the 22nd Needham Youth Classic. Competition included 12 running events (from 50 to 3000 meters) and 8 field events. 17 meet records fell in the almost perfect weather (just a little too hot). Saugus (MA) brought forth a large contingent and won 1st place in the team competition while host Needham finished in 4th (see complete team results in box).
